In the year 2111, one hundred eleven territories, known as terries, have seceded making the U.S.A anything but united. The people who have chosen not to secede, live in the second territory living quiet lives in an effort to avoid any of the dangerous images that are presented to them on their media screens about the unlawful activities prevalent in other terries.
Lincoln Garvey, a bored-with-his-life, Petitions Analyst responsible for reviewing applications for new terries, has been plagued by the number 1 since birth. His birthday adds up to two of them. He works on the first floor in an office with three of them. His phone number and address have four of them. And on the day his grandfather, a renowned Sociologist and scientist responsible for writing the rulebook on secession, died, he was branded with six of them, scrawled across his arm in his grandfather’s handwriting along with a set of coordinates.
Fortunately for Lincoln, he has been able to reject all new terrie requests, keeping his obsession with the number intact. That is until Zephyr Rose enters his office claiming to be the owner of the nearly perfect petition that has been awaiting processing on his desk. But her arrival bodes more than just a disruption in numerics. Her arrival is also accompanied by an opportunity to experience the kind of love he would’ve, otherwise, never known, a conspiracy which leads to a conspiracy to commit murder, and the adventure he has always known in his heart was meant for him.
